The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has released a level three alert for damaging winds, expected to ravage the East coast between Knysna and Port St Johns. The warning predicts that the strong winds will be at their worst from about 3 pm today, 6 April, and last an estimated 12 hours.

SAWS predicts the damaging winds to disrupt both formal and informal settlements along the East coast. As well as disturb ports and smaller harbours. It advises the public to stay indoors and stay away from open windows. Furthermore, anyone outdoors should be cautious of sudden crosswinds, particularly in areas between buildings. SAWS also warns the public to be aware of the possibility of falling trees or powerlines.

Additionally, small boats and vessels should avoid the open sea and preferably seek shelter in harbours or river estuaries. While any parked aircraft should be well-secured and pointing in the direction of the wind.

The additional area of yellow on the map above, running from Hout Bay to Plettenberg Bay, marks the coastal zones that will be affected by disruptive waves over the next couple of days. For which a level one warning was issued yesterday.
