On Thursday, 3 March, Eskom released a statement on Twitter showing which areas will be experiencing load shedding from 17:00 to 22:00.
According to the power utility, “load reduction” will be implemented in order to prevent network overloading that may take place in high-density areas. And once networks are overloaded, it can lead to damage to the electricity infrastructure through explosions in overloaded transformers and mini-substations.
Load shedding will be affecting the following areas:
Gauteng’s main areas:
- Diepsloot
- Soweto
- Vaal
- West Rand
KwaZulu-Natal’s main areas that will be experiencing load shedding:
- Ethekwini
- Mkhambathini
- uMshwathi
- Vulamehlo
- Ubuhlebezwe
- Umzumbe
- Umdoni
- Abaqulusi
- Ndwedwe
- Msunduzi
- Dannhauser
- Newcastle
- Mandeni
- Imbabazane
- UMuziwabantu
- Umdoni
- iMngeni
- Umzimkhulu
- Indaka
- Msunduzi
- uMhlathuze
- Mfolozi

Eskom further urges all customers to switch off all their electrical appliances during load shedding. This can avoid possible damage due to power surges when electricity returns.
