On Thursday, a media briefing was held at the EFF’s Braamfontein headquarters. Here, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema explained why they made the decision to vote with the Democratic Alliance (DA) in key metros.
According to Malema, even though they had been “insulted” in the past by the DA, their focus was to save the country from “the grips” of the African National Congress (ANC).
The DA’s arrogance started jeopardising possible coalitions
Malema also accused the DA of “arrogance and recklessness” which jeopardised coalition talks with smaller parties. Thus, the EFF had to do “damage control” when many smaller parties started threatening to walk away from agreements to vote with the DA due to the party’s “arrogance”.
“They belittle them, they talk down to them… Do you know why they didn’t want the EFF in those negotiations? They can’t do that to the EFF,” Malema said.
The EFF’s focus is on saving the country
According to Malema, they were determined on voting against the ANC and did not care about what had put the smaller parties off.
“Steenhuisen, Helen, insulting us from the first day. We have no problem with that. We are fixing the country,” Malema said.
And when asked what role the EFF would play in DA-led councils, Malema answered that they would remain in the opposition benches.
