The story of the Moti brothers may have resulted in a reunion with their family but from the perspective of Polokwane police, the abduction investigation is far from over.
Moti brothers: Family spokesperson confirms current condition
Zila, 15, Zayyad, 11, Alaan, 13, and seven-year-old Zidan Moti were discovered by Vuwani locals on Wednesday evening. The family that spotted the distraught brothers immediately contacted police and after a brief medical check, the boys were returned to their home in Nirvana, three weeks after they were abducted on their way to school.
Speaking to Times Live, family spokesperson Nazir Osman revealed that the Moti brothers were reacquainting well with their surroundings but that a lot of trauma has yet to be unbundled.
“This ordeal has been extremely traumatic for the boys and the entire Moti family. We humbly request that the public respect and uphold their privacy as they rest and recuperate,” Osman said.
Moti abduction: What’s the latest on the investigation?
At this time, it is too early in the investigation to make any announcements, Osman confirmed. The culprits involved in the abduction are unknown and according to the family spokesperson, the investigation is at a very sensitive stage at this point.
“As the investigation is ongoing, any speculation at this time could be harmful to the course of justice – the outcome of which could prevent this unscrupulous crime from happening to another family and their children,” he added.
From what we understand, the driver who was left behind on the day the Moti brothers were kidnapped has been interviewed, However, it is unclear if he is a person of interest in the investigation.
The boys have yet to be interviewed by police. It’s believed, at this stage, authorities are waiting for psychologists to conclude their work before they step in to question the survivors.
